STATUS OF THE LANDSCAPE INDUSTRY 2021

The Landscape Industry in Florida and the Southeastern states has done well, in fact better than most other industry segments in 2020 and 2021.

THE RECENT PAST AND NEAR FUTURE

This has been an interesting few years for Florida, the country and the world. The pandemic has caused tidal waves affecting almost every business in the United States. Some industries were devastated, especially the restaurant, hospitality/resort, and entertain industries as well as other non-essential businesses. While other industries such as healthcare, grocery, real estate and online retailers did well. Landscape Businesses and Pool Service companies were considered essential services and also posed a lesser risk of infection working outdoors in open-air environments. Hence while most companies ceased working, Landscape & Pool service businesses did not miss a heart-beat with their monthly service revenues. In fact, most Landscape Businesses in Florida are doing VERY well and seeing exponential growth due to the real estate and construction industry boom. Real Estate values are sky-rocketing in Florida and construction in all parts of Florida are at all-time highs. NE, Central and SW Florida are seeing record breaking new construction housing starts with new communities popping up everywhere to meet the demand. The demand is driven from a mass relocation of the US population (in particular NY, NJ & California) to Florida. In fact, Florida has surpassed Texas as the #1 fastest growing population/state in the country.

All of this growth with new communities and new homes, shopping centers, restaurants, and social/entertainment complexes all have one thing in common. They all will have new landscaping installed and require a life-time of landscape maintenance, irrigation maintenance, tree trimming, pest control/fertilization, etc. This is all good news for Florida and good news for Landscape businesses. In speaking with several landscape contractors in the Jacksonville, Orlando and Port Saint Lucie areas, they all state the growth is showing no signs of slowing down with numerous construction projects in planning and in progress to meet the demand.

The Landscape Industry is booming. The only struggle owners are reporting is a labor shortage which ALL industries are experiencing universally. Most growth minded Landscape Business owners are expanding, especially if servicing some of the new growth hotspots throughout Florida.

The Landscape-Related Industry in Florida is rated #1 in the world as there are more Landscape-Related Revenues generated per capita in Florida than anywhere else in the world. Three (3) main factors contribute to this. Florida is a tropical & sub-tropical zone with landscape surroundings remaining green year-round, compared to Michigan or Montana, for example. The type of landscape design and layout is more manicured in Florida rather than natural in Northern or mountainous states. And finally, this is a leading state in the country for golf courses and manicured homeowners associations with clubhouses.

Its good to be a Landscape Contractor in Florida!
